This paper analyzes the morphological structure of five territories within the Barnaul Metropolitan Area (BMA) that are currently developing or planned as urban sub-centers. Based on standardized sites, the ratio of functional zones was calculated, with the "core" (public-business spaces, parks) and "vital" (high-density residential development, social infrastructure) zones playing a key role. The study confirms the formation of a second sub-center in the western direction of Barnaul. It has been established that the center system of the BMA continues to structurally resemble highly urbanized parts of an agglomeration. The historical city center, which shifted in the second half of the 20th century, is becoming part of an emerging "super-center" along the latitudinal axis of the Pavlovsky Tract, supported by two sub-centers (at the intersections with Malakhov Street and the Solnechnaya Polyana St. – Vlasikhinskaya St. junction). Forecasts for the development of the BMA center system are formulated; in particular, signs of its growth in accordance with N.A. Ladovsky’s parabolic planning model are noted.
